Remember “Seeing Is Believing?” We didn’t either, until the company reminded us of its continued existence with the announcement that it’s developing a new color e-book reader that uses subtractive color mixing to display text and images three times the brightness of existing displays. While this won’t be the first color e-ink tech we’ve laid our eyes on, the promise of print-quality color e-books is certainly tantalizing. Your move, Sony.

We knew good and well the next iteration of Windows would be generally available this fall, but now we’ve a date to circle in our datebooks: October 22nd. Yep, the fourth Thursday in the tenth month of this year will mark the first date in which you — the general consumer — can purchase Win7, which gives you plenty of time to figure out which of the 94 variants will suit you best. Specially designed for plutocrats who need to brag that Mark Cuban has the bargain version of their HDTV, Bang & Olufsen’s 103-inch BeoVision 4-103 plasma brings along a 1080p panel and plenty of wow. The unit has just been let loose here in America, going on a US press tour and becoming available for special order for those with loads of disposable income. It can be purchased in an array of color options including black, silver, red, blue, and dark grey, though there is a three to four month lead time for each set. The pain? $93,050 on wall mount, $111,805 on motorized floor stand — though we hear that it’s hand delivered by Dos Equis himself.

AMD already showed us yesterday what kind of graphical prowess could be crammed into a sub-$100 GPU, and today it’s attempting to pull the same kind of stunt on the CPU front. The Athlon X2 7850 Black Edition — a 2.8GHz chip with 2MB of L3 cache and loads of overclocking potential — has just been loosed, and with a downright stunning $69 MSRP, we’d say it’ll have budget gamers across the nation paying attention. Reviewers across the web voiced their appreciation for the low price, and while the processor didn’t burn any barns down along the way, it did manage to garner a sufficient amount of praise while on the bench. NeoSeeker seemed to capture the general consensus with this: “the Athlon X2 7850 is a decent processor that is able to power even the latest games.” ‘Course, the performance-per-watt was a bit lacking given the 65nm manufacturing process, but it’s not like you can have your cake and eat it too.

Japan got the first crack at Dell’s new multitouch all-in-one Studio One 19 in March, but it’s finally headed our way. As expected, prices start at $699, with a Pentium E5200 Dual Core processor, GeForce 9200 integrated graphics, a 320GB HDD, 2GB of RAM and a slot-loading DVD burner in the low-end. Built-in webcams and multitouch features are present across the board. Check out a video of the multitouch functionality after the break: nothing much beyond the usual gimmicks, though we’re a fan of letting your kid lay down beats with his jam-covered fingers — that’s true love.

We’ve already heard plenty of talk that Acer would be rolling out one or more Android phones this year, but it looks like the company’s head of mobile phone products, Aymar de Lencquesaing, has now come out and made the clearest statement yet on the matter, saying that while Acer has “not made any formal announcement of an Android-based device,” it is “likely that we’ll have one in 2009.” No more details beyond that, unfortunately, but there has been some speculation that Acer’s first Android phone would be known as the A1, which may or may not be similar to the mysterious C1 touchscreen phone pictured above, and could land as soon as September. In related news, Acer has also reaffirmed its commitment to become one of the top five handset makers by 2012, adding that it would need to sell 20 to 25 million devices a year to meet that goal.
